Who are you?

If you identify yourself with your surname, the job you do, children you have, place you stay, religion you belong to, so on, then this is definitely for your consumption. These points of references have become our labels . We obviously were not born with these but overtime we have shifted our introduction. But truly, when we move from external to internal knowing, the ground shifts.

Next up, are you the body you wear? Observe your face, hands. legs, flesh, flab, wrinkles, marks on the skin, eye colour, hair texture, finger nails and more. What about the thoughts that came along? Were there only thoughts or feelings too? Did you appreciate your wrinkles, dislike the flab around your belly, worry about the increasing weight or saw the beauty in your eyes?

If you are only the body then who do these thoughts and emotions belong to? Who creates these anyway? The mind, right? Where is the mind? And what does it entail? Thoughts and emotions, what about the physical body then?

These are confusing questions and as we further explore this arena opens up a new dawn as we go on questioning our existence. The understanding deepens. This is not new information. This is what has been explained in the Gita, Scriptures, The Bible, and many other ancient texts, It may not have been explained explicitly like it is by Paramhansa Yogananda in his lessons or by Grand Master Cho Kok Sui in the Pranic Healing & Arhatic Yoga School.

As you move from the physical body to your emotions to your thoughts, who you really are? As the truth broadens its horizon, it is the time the attachment with the body is given up. But would you attach yourself with your thoughts and emotions.? You definitely are not the anger, irritation, happiness or the ecstasy. The next compelling question is “Are these permanent?” or “Was I born with this?” A child is not born with anger until he/she sees it in others around. Emotions and thoughts are like floating clouds. You are not these passing clouds either?

According to the great scriptures of all the religions, theosophy, spiritual and metaphysical schools, human beings are consciousness with a physical, astral and mental body. This consciousness is called the soul. The soul encapsulates the physical, astral (Emotional) and mental (Thoughts) bodies. You are the soul. That is your true nature.

Gravity or force cannot be seen similarly soul may not be perceived but can be felt. The thoughts, emotions and the physical body are traps with false identifications. You become a slave to these impermanent attachments. That’s the reason behind shaky, fluctuating emotions, ups and downs, pain and pleasure, anger and laughter. The truth that you are a being of infinite consciousness, you are a soul, liberates from the burden of name, job, religion, etc.

What is the purpose of knowing you are the soul? Simply to find the freedom in believing that you are an infinite being of universal consciousness. Once you are aware of it, why would you identify with lower frequencies of anger, worry, guilt, pain, etc. These lower vibrations are the seeds of all pain, diseases, problems and so on. It is like the difference between a child crying over a chocolate and adult knowing the tantrum.

The purpose of the soul is its unique goal. The personality of the physical body with its tantrums of thoughts and emotions derails the progress of the soul to reach its goal of evolution. Loosing direction in life is painful and that’s where disease, misfortune, broken relationships, unhappiness and all the drama gets created. All that just for us to realise that we are not this drama. We have a higher purpose. A purpose which is higher in frequency can easily encapsulate the demands of a good job, promotion, new house, happy relationships and many such desires.

It is not about giving up the world. It is about playing from the higher ground of soul consciousness and seeing the wider picture. That makes life simpler without any struggle, restriction, disease, pain or suffering.

The light of the soul is shining within all of us. You are an infinite being of universal consciousness, then why do short change yourself by identifying with just a small part of you. Observe the physical body, emotions and thoughts. Identify yourself with the eternal soul. Embrace your vastness.

Find the light. Follow your true knowing. Radiate it out to engulf the entire universe within you.
