Is it getting too much? Are you feeling the burden? Your body is telling you something. Are you listening? Ask your body right now and feel the minor aches, pains, knots coming up. Well, lets acknowledge, its not been easy. These months haven’t been easy for you and me. There is a heavy feeling, an invisible pressure.
In a habit to label everything, which gives us power of knowledge, we can call these ‘Uncertain Times’. This uncertainty is attracting unknown fear, at work, at home, with people around and even with strangers. What is the cost of this fear? High bp, headaches, body aches and the worst-case scenario- heart attack or brain hemorrhage.
Would you like to join the dots between sudden death of a healthy friend, colleague or family member and maybe an invisible stress festering somewhere inside them? In the automatic habit of controlling our lives we operate from the worst-case scenario. That in itself does not help negative thoughts to creep in and make the unknown negative feelings, which are not even real, larger and real.
Believe it or not, there is a link between stress caused by unknown fear and physical ailments which may not have a history. The larger question is to analyse- Is it real? Or is it make belief, absorbed from the outside world.
It is an innate human tendency to either externalize the fear and put the burden of blame on someone else or shoulder the responsibility and feel guilty for not doing enough. The helplessness covers a thick layer of the latent belief that there is no choice. Once trapped in the choiceless world, body takes on the load. It takes it till the breaking point.
Shall we now blame the body? The pains, knots, acidity, headaches, shortness of breath and such physical issues are body’s mechanism to communicate with us. How else will it warn us? And how much of that awareness we are not receiving? Or to prove our strength we are making these signals insignificant. Getting up everyday to face the challenges of life or so we believe.
“Whom are we trying to please at the cost of our body, mind and eventually life?” Do we really believe that there is no choice? Think again. If you stretch an elastic it will snap at a breaking point. Life is no different. The indicator of the breaking point differentiates but the key is to know. That will begin with self-awareness and care. Your strength is not displayed by taking on more pressure.
Everyone at any point in time does not just have a choice but there are many choices available. Only if we choose to put ourselves before the pressure and be aware of our capacity. believe that there are ample choices available to us.
Here are a few hacks to save oneself from not being martyred by pressure.
- Develop body’s awareness by listening and talking to it once in a while. May sound really strange. Well it is for sure trying to tell you when to stop taking pressure.
- Recognise the boundary between oneself and others. That goes out for chores, job list and emotions.
- Build courage to communicate your deepest emotions with yourself and others.
- There is strength in saying no to tasks which do not belong to you or can be easily done by others.
- Take out time to unwind and be with what makes you relaxed and happy.
- Remember, you will not be given the highest gallantry award by taking on more than you can do.
Pressure is omnipresent, so is happiness. Choose what makes you free, lighter and stronger. Listen to the inner light. It doesn’t lie. Go with it.
The light is shining within you.
