Physical hygiene is the anchor of good personal health. The standard operating procedures of brushing teeth twice in a day, taking a shower, washing hands, etc are drilled in the growing up years. Lack of good physical hygiene leads to diseases; this we know as well. Diseases are invisible so is healthy energy.
The new found emphasis on energy hygiene surfaced during the covid period. However, this has been practiced by ancient civilisations and passed on through various techniques. Many are labelled superstition as the ritual travelled generations not the significance, the scientific background nor the reason why it should be performed.
Energy is something you may not be able to see, however you feel it. For instance, you can make a difference when you meet a happy person and someone who feels like carrying an emotional baggage. Similarly, recall the vibes in a holy or religious place versus a cemetery or cremation ground.
Energy, prana or chi fuels the body to perform various activities. This energy does get contaminated with stressful thoughts, negative or unregulated emotions or physically visiting energetically unhygienic places. The heavy energy de-vitalises the physical body.
There is awareness and interest building up around this subject. Rightly so as it de-mystifies many situations or phenomenon which cannot be perceived with the naked eyes.
Ancient and recent cultures practice certain techniques to clean the energy around people or physical spaces. Here are a few practices which are easy to follow and can be managed almost daily.
- Take a salt water bath after a regular shower. You can also dip your feet in warm salt water for ten minutes. Salt is considered a natural cleanser. Taking a dip in sea water is relaxing because the salt washes away the heavy energy built up in the aura.
- Salt water can also be used to mop the house once a week or more.
- Burn camphor, pure sandalwood/lavender incense sticks or essential oils
- Keep the space clutter free and give away things not used at least for over a year. A cluttered space leads to a cluttered or confused mind.
- Play or do holy chants once in a day.
- Keep some indoor plants to cleanse and circulate the energy.
- Wear washed/clean clothes every day. Avoid torn clothes. Same goes for the bedsheet and bedcover.
- Try and use the same chair at work. The energy imprint left by others can be absorbed by you.
- Regular exercise, pranayama and healthy-timely food is important to maintain good energy hygiene. Fasting is good, occasionally to cleanse and then fill up the body with fresh energy. Avoid stale food or packaged food. It does not have any prana. Instead, the body ends up using more prana to break it down and flushing it out of the system.
- Energy hygiene should also be kept in mind before getting into an intimate relationship. Many times, clients are healed for aches, pains and symptoms absorbed from the partner.
- Regular short-breaks from routine are important to refresh the energy and revitalise the body. Walking in the nature, dip in the sea water, short trek or any such break helps the old energy to be released.
- For the mind, it’s imperative to create positive environment of thoughts and emotions.
- Try to avoid dwelling on repetitive thoughts. Break the pattern by listening to happy music/dancing or playing some sport.
- Change the association with a particular situation with a negative self-depreciating thought. Be aware of the pattern and create an opposite emotion when that negative thought emerges. Do this for some time repetitively. The situation, thought and emotion will change to something happier.
- Remember challenges are inevitable. One can call them pain, stress, suffering or anything even more horrific. You cannot change the situations or people. One thing you can change is your attitude.
- One depressive situation or person can change the energy. Similarly, one happy person with higher vibrations can uplift the energy. So, you must decide what would you like to be former or latter. Be aware of your vibe going down. Identify what uplifts you. It could be music, change of place, good food and so on. Once you have zeroed on exactly when your vibe goes down apply your technique and move on. It is not worth getting holed up in a pool of negativity.
This is not the end. There are many other practices that can be added here, however the idea is to get started. Energy hygiene is real and is there since the earth’s existence. Do not waste any more energy in doubting it, rather start practising and then observe the change.
There is light in the form of energy, wisdom, love, and intelligence. Find, follow, and radiate it.
